Spring cleaning in the make up closet

Finally it is 1st of March. This is the first day of spring after a looooong winter which felt like years to us. Well yes, probably March will prepare little “cold” surprises for us. But it is spring in our heart that matters! 😊

So why don’t you spare this first weekend for a “spring cleaning” in your make up closet in the bathroom?

The expiry dates of cosmetic products are easily disregarded. However, old cosmetics irritates the skin, causes pimples, closes the pores and fasten your aging. If you are concerned about little allergy like spots on your face first you need to suspect from your old make up and dirty make up brushes!

So this weekend gather all your creams, face masks, serums, toners, make up products, shampoos etc and check their expiry dates. If it is not written on the products and you are not sure Mika listed below the shelf lives of beauty products for you 😊

Moisturizers, Face Creams and Eye Creams:

(6 months to 1 year)

If your moisturizer or cream is in a pump dispenser it likely will last 12 months.

If your moisturizer or cream is in a jar it will last about 6 months due to bacteria

introduced into the jar when using your fingers to apply it.

You might always want to use clean and dry hands when dipping into any jar- better yet, use a clean applicator stick each time.

Certain anti-aging products have a less stable shelf life if they contain ingredients like

vitamin C, retinol or glycolic acid. Purchase these in smaller amounts and use them up

within 6 months.

Facial Oils and Serums containing only natural ingredients with no added preservatives

should keep anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on the expiry dates of the

individual ingredients. Shorten the shelf life for oils stored in high humidity and warm

climates. These are best stored in cool, dry places, away from light and heat sources.

Water based toners and face mists: 6 months - 1 year

Sunscreen purchased with a DIN number:

The expiry date will be indicated on the bottle. Purchase your sunscreen new each season.

Lets not forget about our make up brushes and have a special product to clean them. If you don’t want to buy any products to clean the brushes just wash them with your make up cleansing gel, rinse thoroughly and let them air dry on a clean towel. Or you can use a mixture of an olive oil and anti-bacterial soap.
